Wednesday, November 10th

Session 1 : 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

"Lessons Learned from the Pandemic: Flexibility Accommodations" (Presented by Andrea Byerley, George Fox University)

The COVID-19 pandemic brought to light what many people with disabilities already knew: some days it’s still possible to work or be engaged in classes, but not possible to actually attend in person. George Fox University held undergraduate classes in person throughout the 2020-21 school year and thus needed to find a solution for students who were quarantined or asymptomatic and COVID-positive to be able to participate remotely in in-person classes. Some of these solutions were brought forward into 2021-22 school year as flexibility accommodations for students with disabilities. This session will describe the process George Fox University went through to get to this accommodation approved by the administration as well as the collaboration between Disability & Accessibility Services, the student, the department, and the faculty member for each of these accommodations. The session will allow plenty of time for discussion so other schools can share their processes, roadblocks, concerns, and hopes.

Join us in the inaugural session for the ORAHEAD Book/Media club Conversation (Facilitated by Earlee Kerekes-Mishra)

During this 45 minute discussion we invite the membership to spend time sharing and connecting with each other during our facilitated discussion around a poignant Ted Talk, Stella Young’s I’m Not Your Inspiration, Thank You Very Much. While many of us have listened to/watched this less than 10-minute talk, there are newer professionals that may not have had the opportunity to view this yet. We are hopeful that our seasoned professionals in our membership will share their thoughts with our newer professionals bringing a fresh lens to this discussion as well.
